Hratchya Hayents is an Armenian American painter, sculptor, and author based in Los Angeles. Born in Cyprus and raised in Soviet Armenia, he trained in sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts before immigrating to the United States in 1980.
Working in acrylic and oil, Hayents explores memory, displacement, love, and the human cost of conflict through abstraction. Color and gesture give form to experiences that resist words. His work invites viewers to consider what connects us across borders and what remains of our humanity when respect and equality are threatened.
For Hayents, colors, like tears, have no nationality. This belief lies at the heart of his art: a commitment to human dignity and the possibility of peace.
His solo exhibition at Forest Lawn Museum in 2024–2025 presented more than twenty paintings and welcomed approximately 8,500 visitors. The exhibition and accompanying interviews offered a closer look at his artistic practice and life.
Alongside his visual art, Hayents writes poetry and fiction, with books published in Armenian and English. Painting and writing are intertwined expressions of his lifelong search for a language of memory and human connection.
